Ebda Store
VAT registration
Who may charge VAT
Only businesses that are registered for VAT may charge it. Charging VAT while you are not registered is an offence under Egypt's VAT Law No. 67 of 2016. That is why every new store starts with VAT off, and why Ebda Store only lets you turn it on after we verify your registration.
If your business is not registered for VAT, you do not need to do anything: leave VAT off and your orders carry no tax.
How to submit your registration
Open your store, go to Tax & VAT, and fill in the VAT registration card at the top.
- Enter your tax registration number. It has 9 digits and is printed on your tax card. Spaces and dashes are fine.
- Enter your legal business name exactly as it appears on your tax card or VAT certificate.
- Upload your tax card or VAT registration certificate as a PDF, JPG or PNG (up to 10 MB each, at most 5 files).
- Tick the confirmation that your business is registered for VAT with the Egyptian Tax Authority.
- Press Submit for review.
We review submissions manually. While a submission is under review, its details are locked.
What changes once you are verified
- The status on the card changes to Verified.
- You can now switch on Enable tax collection on the same page and set your tax rate. VAT in Egypt is 14%.
- Your tax invoices show your tax registration number and the heading Tax invoice / فاتورة ضريبية, with their own numbers (INV-000001, INV-000002, …). See Invoices and credit notes.
- VAT is charged on everything you bill for the order: the products after any discount shown on the invoice, plus the shipping you charge and the cash-on-delivery fee (VAT Law Art. 10). Cart, checkout, the order, the invoice and the emails all show the same figures, in this order: subtotal, discounts, shipping, COD fee, VAT, total.
To change your verified details later, contact Ebda Store support.
Rejected or revoked
- Rejected means we could not verify your submission. The reason is shown on the card. Fix the details or documents and submit again.
- Revoked means a verification that was granted earlier has been withdrawn, for example because the number turned out to be wrong. VAT is switched off for your store until you are verified again. The reason is shown on the card.
Good to know
- Ebda Store does not file taxes on your behalf. You stay responsible for your own VAT returns.
- Electronic receipts for the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) are not yet integrated with Ebda Store.
- Ebda Store's own subscription invoices are separate from your store's VAT. Whether they carry VAT is decided by Ebda Store, not by your store settings.
